Kim Jong Un is an especially valuable scan subject because his government exposes the difference between public ownership and genuine public control. North Korea officially rejects private capitalist domination, yet its resources are not democratically circulated to the workers or citizens. As the third leader of North Korea’s hereditary political dynasty, he inherited control over a state in which political authority, military power, public employment, food distribution, information, and legal protection are all closely tied to loyalty to the ruling leadership.
